The Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA) has announced the resignation of an experienced board director after seven years of service.
Jo Tory, the founder of Najo, has resigned as a director. She joined the board in February 2017 and served as president between 2019 and 2021.
President Joshua Sharp of Ian Sharp Jewellery said she would be remembered for her contributions during the challenges of the COVID pandemic.
“Jo has been an integral part of the JAA, particularly through the pandemic. We wish her all the best for the future,” he said.
Tory’s resignation comes due to increased personal and business commitments. She said she had learned a great deal during her time with the JAA.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a JAA board director and president. It has been a time of learning and sharing, of friendships and thoughtful process,” she said.
Mary Storch will replace Tory on the board as a director, assuming the position with more than 40 years of industry experience.
She has enjoyed a storied career in the jewellery industry, having worked as managing director of Storch & Co, appearing as a guest lecturer at the Gemmological Association of Australia, and serving as a judge for the De Beers National Jewellery Design Competition.
Storch retired from the jewellery industry in 2002; however, Sharp said her experience and insight will prove valuable.
“Mary’s knowledge and enthusiasm for the jewellery industry is significant, and her willingness to give back to the jewellery industry through her position on the JAA Board is commendable.”
The remaining JAA directors are Ronnie Bauer of Klepners (vice president), Cameron Marks of Percy Marks (treasurer), Meredith Doig (governance consultant), and Daniel Anania of Anania Jewellers.
