Kentucky Fried Jewellery: Unlikely partnership raises money for good cause

An upcoming New Zealand designer has partnered with fast food chain KFC to release a limited-edition jewellery collection inspired by fried chicken.

To promote the return of the Hot and Crispy Boneless Chicken range, KFC has collaborated with Nick Von Klawill and released a new jewellery collection featuring 11 pieces – with the proceeds going to charity.

‘The Boneless Collection’ features hand-crafted sterling silver and pearl necklaces.

“There are no bones in the chicken, so I took that as inspiration and created an 11-piece collection – one for each of the secret herbs and spices,” he told The New Zealand Herald.

“These are elevated, one-off pieces that would suit anyone and their style – from streetwear to couture. I can see them on an indie kid or the coolest grandma.”

The necklaces were designed in 2D before being programmed into 3D software and printed in wax. After that, the pieces were cast in silver and hand-finished to a fine polish before being encrusted with cubic zirconia gemstones or strung on pearls.

“Each link is individually cast and hand-finished before being put together to form the chain. It’s time intensive, but it’s so worth it for a distinctive look,” he added.

Based in Auckland, Von Klawill has been making jewellery for more than 20 years.

Select pieces can be purchased online, retailing at $NZ1299. All proceeds will be donated to Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
